article bubblers intro | An Introduction to Bubblers

A Bubbler is a convenient cross between a water tube and a glass spoon. It has the ability to hold water to cool down your hits and is also small enough to fit in one hand. Bubblers are a refined and elegant tool, they add a fun element to any smoke session. The ease of use makes bubblers perfect for either personal or social smoke sessions, combining the mobility of a spoon with the herbal enhancing powers of water.

Why smoke with water?

A bubbler filters the smoke through water to both purify the smoke and make for cleaner/smoother hits and has become a more popular method amongst smokers. Water filtration is also very effective in removing unwanted toxic components from smoke, this can effectively reduce the risks of damage to the lungs and respiratory system.

How to use a Bubbler:

Using a bubbler is as easy as one, two, three! Start by filling the reservoir with water. Much like a water tube, you only need enough water to submerge the down-stem. The cooler the water, the smoother the hit tends to be. Replacing your water frequently is important to help reduce build up of resin within the chamber. Once your water has been added, pack your bowl with your favorite flowers! Cover the carb with your finger, touch your flame to the bowl and inhale through the mouthpiece. When you approach your intake limit, release the carb, clear the chamber and repeat.

Discretion & Portability:

If discretion is what you’re looking for, then a bubbler may be the perfect addition to your collection! Bubblers can be stowed away easily because of their compact build. They’re also quieter than water tubes making it easier to use around non-smokers or in a public setting. Bubblers are small enough to take with you on the go, whether that be by backpack, purse or your favorite hardcase/carrying case!

Styles of Bubblers:

Styles of bubblers vary, the key is to find one that speaks to you!

The Sidecar Bubbler:

A sidecar bubbler’s neck branches off of the side of the chamber and leads to the mouthpiece. This style of bubbler eliminates splash-back.

The Sherlock Bubbler:

A sherlock bubbler is an upstanding waterpipe with a bent neck/mouthpiece most commonly in an ‘S’ shape and a down-stem that goes straight down into the water reservoir.

The Hammer Bubbler:

A hammer bubbler gets its name from its kickstand style mouthpiece and flat bottomed bowl.

The mouthpiece and the base of the chamber should sit flush on any surface area.

The Double Bubbler:

Double bubblers feature two separate chambers, each with its own separate down-stem.

The two chambers are connected by a bridge allowing smoke to pass from one to the other.

As a result, double bubblers offer twice the smoke diffusion and filtration before inhalation.
